My Words Miss

My words miss
I want to love but there is no help for it
if my words miss
and my cries are wall-hangings
Were I night then words would not have meanings
words have meanings but they miss
what does it mean then when the words have meanings
and the wind has meanings
and the sea has meaning
and the sea swims
drowns
deep

If you weep when I speak
the sea flows from your eyes
and words do not block it, do not dam the sea
And my cries do not stop it
and my looks, stares, smiles
and when my hand goes to touch you it pales in fear
My words cannot make it touch you
without trembling
and you know, though your words don't know,
of my hand and its trembling
And you weep and I do not know whether you weep for sadness
or for the effect of it
I feel you would stop weeping if I said the right words
yet my hand would still tremble
and you would still know
though your words would not know
